No Kings Riverhead Parking and March Maps

Image
Map of gathering place for Student Led March Because of a theater event and insurance concerns, the school does not want us to suggest parking in its lots.  The Walgreen, Lidl, Target and Staples lots on route 58 may be best.  Non-students can wait in their cars or vigil with posters on the south side of 58 then join in the march as it passes by. Map of rally area Blue circled areas are available for parking.  Additional parking is available in the Town Hall lot south of Railroad Avenue.  Red circled areas are the Supreme Court and the parking lot used for No Kings assembly.  Handicap area for wheel chairs and folding chairs is behind the sidewalk at the west edge of the assembly lot closest to the Supreme Court steps.  Other folding chairs can be placed nearby.  Literature and conversation tables should go on the south east corner of the assembly lot.   Passenger drop off is on the north side of the assembly lot (Railroad Avenue).  In c...

The Irish Were the 19th Century's Hispanics

When America Despised the Irish: The 19th Century’s Refugee Crisis Forced from their homeland because of famine and political upheaval, the Irish endured vehement discrimination before making their way into the American mainstream.   BY:  CHRISTOPHER KLEIN UPDATED: JUNE 1, 2023 | ORIGINAL: MARCH 16, 2017   https://www.history.com/news/when-america-despised-the-irish-the-19th-centurys-refugee-crisis     The refugees seeking haven in America were poor and disease-ridden. They threatened to take jobs away from Americans and strain welfare budgets. They practiced an alien religion and pledged allegiance to a foreign leader. They were bringing with them crime. They were accused of being rapists.  These undesirables were Irish…. More than just the pestilence was responsible for the Great Hunger. A political system ruled by London and an economic system dominated by British absentee landlords were co-conspirators. F...

OLA's Proposed Legislation

EAST END PUBLIC SAFETY & ACCOUNTABILITY LOCAL LAW 2026 Register with OLA to join the campaign for proposed legislation: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfNzfhowXLnPQDAanyHr1FQWkxykwexDkYJCquGO1CQ1doqWA/viewform Talking point suggestions from OLA: * We are one East End community. We must stand together as one community. *This local law was created by a lawmaker with 30 years experience representing the East End as State Assemblyman: Fred Thiele, who recently retired, serves on the Board of OLA. The law is written in a way to serve East End Towns and Villages in a unique and adaptable way. The local law was crafted to avoid delay. * We need to step beyond statements of condemnation to establish a local law that will build back confidence in our emergency response systems that are not prepared for these dangerous and chaotic ICE actions that we have seen numerous times on the East End. * While many community members may feel that all ICE actions should cease, it cannot be the...

Why No Kings

Why No Kings As President Trump escalates his attempts to control us, it is on us, the people, to show that we will fight to protect one another and our country.  If he believes we will roll over while he takes our freedoms, he is mistaken. We are coming together again because we know we can overcome this repression when we unite. In America, we have No Kings. President Trump is using OUR tax dollars to pay for HIS power grabs. He is pouring public money into his authoritarian takeovers of cities—deploying federal forces and funding mass detention and deportation operations, all while cutting services that working families rely on every single day. The administration is harming families right now Families are living in fear as ICE raids tear parents from children and destabilize entire neighborhoods. Parents shouldn’t have to choose between going to work and risking their family’s safety. This is not a future threat, it is happening now. The administration Is using fear and violenc...
